Lines hold through gusty winds as Glacier Point Road reopens

The Dome Fire is burning in Yosemite National Park north of Chilnualna Falls near Wawona. Over the last 72 hours, all perimeter lines held through gusty winds, confining fire activity to creeping and smoldering in interior unburned pockets. The fire does not threaten nearby communities today, and structure defense remains in place around the historic Ostrander ski hut.

Evacuations and Closures

• No evacuation orders or warnings are in effect as of October 11.
• Glacier Point Road reopened to traffic on October 10, with motorists urged to watch for firefighting equipment.

Colder, unsettled weather arrives through Monday night, bringing gusty winds shifting from southerly to northwesterly alongside mountain snow and rain showers before drier conditions return mid-week. The incoming moisture and cold will keep fire behavior minimal, limited to creeping and smoldering in interior heavy fuels. Firefighters plan to patrol containment lines, conduct mop-up, and backhaul equipment ahead of expected full containment.

Cause and Context

Park officials determined the fire was human-caused, ignited by an abandoned campfire north of Chilnualna Falls. Ground operations have contended with standing dead trees left by the previous Empire Fire burn scar.
