Iron Fire Report - June 29, 2026

Fire Start, Size and Growth

Start Date/Time/Location: The Iron Fire ignited at approximately 2:14 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2026. The fire started in the Badlands area near Theodore Street and Eucalyptus Avenue, adjacent to the World Logistics Center Parkway and just south of the SR-60 Freeway in Moreno Valley, Riverside County, California.
Size and Containment: As of June 29, 2026, the fire has burned 635 acres and is currently 90% contained.
Fuels, Growth and Rate of Spread: Fueled by dry brush and tall grass (approximately 2.5 feet in height) typical of the region, the fire initially burned at a moderate rate of spread through dense vegetation. Firefighters successfully stopped the forward progress of the blaze by 8:00 p.m. on the day it started.
Containment Efforts: The response is operating under the unified command of CAL FIRE and the Riverside County Fire Department. A robust response of 77 personnel, 11 engines, 4 hand crews, and numerous firefighting air tankers flying suppression missions successfully halted the fire's advance. Crews are currently working diligently to mop up, extinguish isolated hotspots, and reinforce established containment lines. The estimated cost of containment efforts to date is $500,000.

Emergency Information

Evacuations and Sheltering:
Mandatory Evacuation Orders: There are currently no mandatory evacuation orders in place for the Iron Fire.
Evacuation Warnings: There are currently no evacuation warnings in place.

Structures Impacted: No residential or commercial structures have been reported as damaged or destroyed, and no structures are currently threatened by the blaze.
School and Business Closures: There have been no reported school or business closures in the Moreno Valley area due to this fire.
Notable Impacts: The fire burned in close proximity to the World Logistics Center in Moreno Valley, but the facility and surrounding notable infrastructure were not directly impacted.

Safety Concerns:
Power Outages: There are no active Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) or unplanned power outages reported in the area as a result of the fire.
Water Safety: No specific water safety concerns or boil water advisories have been issued.
Burn Bans: Standard county-issued burn bans and seasonal fire restrictions remain strictly in effect for Riverside County due to the high fire danger and dry summer conditions. All outdoor burning is restricted.
Air Quality: While the fire is largely contained, lingering smoke from smoldering vegetation may pose localized health risks, particularly for sensitive groups or those with respiratory conditions. Residents in the immediate vicinity are advised to limit strenuous outdoor activities if smoke is visible or can be smelled.

Ongoing Outlook

Containment Projections: With the fire currently at 90% containment and forward progress completely stopped, firefighters project reaching full containment shortly. The remaining 10% of the uncontained perimeter is being heavily monitored. Crews will remain on the scene over the coming days to patrol the area and ensure that containment lines hold against any shifting winds.
Weather and Wind Warnings: There are currently no Red Flag Warnings directly over the fire perimeter. However, the region is experiencing above-normal summer temperatures and dry conditions. Fire officials remain on high alert, as these conditions create a favorable environment for rapid fire growth should any new sparks ignite.

Cause and the Role of Weather and Climate

Cause: The official cause of the Iron Fire is currently under investigation by CAL FIRE and local authorities.
Weather and Climate: The fire was fueled by highly receptive, dry vegetation following a period of above-normal temperatures across Southern California. These extreme, dry climate conditions are typical of the state's active wildfire season, greatly reducing the moisture content in local grasses and chaparral, which in turn exacerbates fire intensity and allows initial sparks to spread at a moderate to rapid pace before intervention.
