Buckhorn 2 Fire Report — October 13, 2026
Precipitation aids firefighters securing containment lines southeast of Murtaugh
The Buckhorn 2 Fire is burning near Buckhorn Canyon, southeast of Murtaugh in Cassia County. After spreading through timber and brush following its ignition, fire activity moderated as rain and snow moved across the burn area, allowing federal and local crews to establish containment lines. While structures were threatened earlier in the incident, moisture and suppression efforts have checked the fire's advance, and no communities are reported threatened today.
Evacuations and Closures
- No evacuation orders, warnings, or road closures are in effect as of October 13, 2026.
Impact
Structures were threatened by the fire, but widespread precipitation across the burn area aided suppression efforts and enabled crews to secure lines.
Conditions and Outlook
Breezy westerly winds will ease and shift toward the east and south over the coming days, while conditions gradually dry out and warm up with little chance of precipitation. Recent rain and snow will keep fire behavior subdued in the near term as firefighters focus on strengthening and securing containment lines around the perimeter.
Cause and Context
Investigators confirmed on October 10 that the fire was human-caused. The incident was initially logged in dispatch reports as the Ia 1 Fire before being officially renamed the Buckhorn 2 Fire.
