Crews reinforce containment lines as fire slowly creeps northwest

The Crooked Fire is burning in steep, heavily timbered terrain northeast of Idaho City within the Boise National Forest. Over the past 72 hours, the fire has backed and crept slowly toward the northwest, where rugged natural barriers continue to check forward spread. Containment lines along the eastern flank are holding firmly while crews reinforce southern and western perimeters to secure travel routes.

Evacuations and Closures

• No community evacuation orders or warnings are currently in effect (August 31).
• Forest Road 384 remains open toward Atlanta with pilot car escorts and delays between Highway 21 and Forest Road 327 (August 30).
• Boise National Forest closures remain in effect for Black Rock Campground, Upper and Lower Crooked River Trailheads, and the Moore's Creek Summit Trail and Road (August 30).

Impact

Firefighters successfully protected the historic Barber Flat Cabin without damage as flames approached on August 28. Rolling debris, burning material, and falling hazard trees have periodically blocked forest access roads.

Conditions and Outlook

Gusty southerly winds are expected to increase ahead of a midweek shift toward cooler temperatures, shifting west-southwest winds, and chances of rain showers with improved humidity recovery. Great Basin Complex Incident Management Team 3 is constructing indirect containment lines along existing road networks while engaging directly where conditions allow. Fire behavior is expected to stay largely moderated along the northern edge.

Cause and Context

The human-caused fire remains under official investigation as of August 30.
