Silver Fire Report — September 7, 2026
Operations scale down as crews reinforce lines and activity remains minimal
The fire is burning in rocky, subalpine terrain in the Upper Pack River drainage near Silver Dollar Peak and Roman Nose. Recent rainfall has dampened fire activity to creeping and smoldering on the eastern flank while ground crews continue reinforcing indirect containment lines along roads and trails. Fire spread remains minimal with no imminent threat to populated areas or structures as incident operations begin scaling down.
Evacuations and Closures
- No evacuation orders or warnings are in effect as of September 7.
- Emergency road closures remain in effect as of September 4 for Forest Service Road 231 north of its junction with Forest Service Road 293, and Forest Service Road 293 including all spur roads.
- An emergency barricade is in place on Upper Pack River Road at the Forest Service Road 293 intersection near the Pack River Snowmobile Parking area as of September 4.
- Trail closures remain in effect as of September 4 for Trails 217, 6, and 268 in the Sandpoint Ranger District.
- Roman Nose Lakes Trails, Bottleneck Lake Trail, and Snow Lake Trail in the Bonners Ferry Ranger District remain closed as of September 4.
Conditions and Outlook
Rain and elevated humidity will continue across the area through Tuesday before giving way to drier conditions and moderate westerly winds mid-week. Fire activity is expected to remain subdued, allowing crews to continue improving road and trail fuel breaks along the Pack River Road corridor and Forest Service Road 293. Management of the fire is scheduled to transfer to the local Sandpoint Ranger District on September 9 as operations transition to patrol and monitoring.
Cause and Context
The fire was ignited naturally by lightning on August 23, 2026, and merged with nearby lightning-sparked starts, the Silver Dollar 2 and Middle Silver fires, during early initial attack operations.
