Bras Fire Report — October 20, 2026

Firefighters fully contain grass fire east of Hot Springs

The fire burned east of Hot Springs, spreading through dry grass and sagebrush between Little Bitterroot Road and Wilks Gulch Road. Firefighters conducted burnout operations along local roads and achieved full containment on Monday afternoon. Fire activity is minimal and the blaze poses no active threat to nearby homes.

Evacuations and Closures

  • No evacuation orders or warnings are in effect as of October 20.
  • No major road closures are in place as of October 18.

Impact

Threatened residences were successfully protected without loss, though heavy commercial equipment at a nearby rock yard and sections of fencing were destroyed. No injuries or deaths have been reported.

Conditions and Outlook

Light southeasterly breezes and mild conditions will give way to shifting westerly winds, cooler air, and a high chance of rain toward the end of the week. With the perimeter fully contained, minimal creeping behavior is expected as crews patrol and monitor lines.

Cause and Context

The fire was human-caused, sparked on October 17 when winds blew embers from an unattended burn pile on Prongua Road. The incident remains under active investigation for violation of open burning regulations.

Official updates current through October 20, 2026.
