GRACEMONT Fire Report — September 15, 2026
Evacuations remain in place as fire pushes eastward through timber
The Gracemont Fire is burning in northern Caddo County east of Binger near County Road 2670, advancing eastward toward southwestern Canadian County. Over the last several days, the fire exhibited extreme activity with crowning, spotting, and rapid runs through dense timber and dry grasses. Ground crews and aerial resources are actively working to protect threatened rural homes, ranches, and agricultural land.
Evacuations and Closures
- Evacuations are in effect for rural homes and ranches in the fire zone east of Binger (September 14).
- Binger municipal water conservation request in place to ensure supply for firefighting operations (September 14).
Impact
Flames damaged rural outbuildings, vehicles, and ranch properties, and destroyed a responding brush truck during initial suppression efforts. Dense smoke and a towering pyrocumulus cloud drifted across the Oklahoma City metropolitan area, while local ranchers moved livestock out of the fire's path.
Conditions and Outlook
Persistent gusty southerly winds, low humidity, and hot conditions will continue across the fire area over the coming days, with virtually no chance of rainfall. These conditions are expected to sustain active burning and spotting in cedar timber and cured rangeland. Multi-county task forces plan to continue building containment lines and conducting aerial retardant and water drops.
Cause and Context
The cause of the fire remains undetermined. Response efforts involve multi-jurisdictional mutual aid task forces, with aerial tankers and helicopters utilizing Fort Cobb Lake for water supply.
