Evacuations remain in place as fire pushes eastward through timber

The Gracemont Fire is burning in northern Caddo County east of Binger near County Road 2670, advancing eastward toward southwestern Canadian County. Over the last several days, the fire exhibited extreme activity with crowning, spotting, and rapid runs through dense timber and dry grasses. Ground crews and aerial resources are actively working to protect threatened rural homes, ranches, and agricultural land.

Dense smoke and a towering pyrocumulus cloud drifted across the Oklahoma City metropolitan area, while local ranchers moved livestock out of the fire's path.

Persistent gusty southerly winds, low humidity, and hot conditions will continue across the fire area over the coming days, with virtually no chance of rainfall. These conditions are expected to sustain active burning and spotting in cedar timber and cured rangeland.
