Evacuation recommendations lifted as firefighters slow spread toward Highway 190
The Benson Fire is burning in Menard County near Ellis Road, Benson Road, and Bois D'Arc, having spread north-northwest toward Highway 190 after igniting on September 12. Bulldozer crews and local firefighters successfully slowed the fire's forward progress and are building containment lines. The immediate threat to nearby residents has eased, and no evacuation notices remain in place.
