Park closures remain in effect as fire creeps near Desolation Peak
The fire is burning in steep, remote timber within North Cascades National Park east of Ross Lake, northeast of Marblemount. Over the last 72 hours, it has shown moderate growth, actively backing, flanking, and creeping north of Desolation Peak and southwest of Willow Lake. Structures in the vicinity remain threatened as crews maintain full-suppression and protection efforts.
Evacuations and Closures
- Area, road, and trail closures remain in effect across North Cascades National Park as of September 22.
- No evacuation orders are in effect for nearby communities as of September 22.
Conditions and Outlook
South-southwest winds will remain light to moderate over the coming days, accompanied by cooler conditions, improved humidity recovery, and increasing chances of rain showers. The incoming precipitation is expected to moderate fire behavior while crews continue suppression and structure protection operations.
Cause and Context
The fire was ignited by lightning in mid-July along the border and merged with the adjacent Border 1 Fire on July 21.
