Moderate fire activity continues near Stehekin under Level 1 evacuation warnings

The Sisi Fire is burning in steep, rugged terrain in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, slowly backing and flanking toward the Stehekin River and Agnes Creek. Recent rainfall moderated fire behavior across the landscape, though creeping, smoldering, and isolated single-tree torching continue in heavy timber litter. Advisory evacuation warnings and area closures remain active for communities and recreation corridors up-valley from Stehekin.

Evacuations and Closures

• Level 1 'Ready' evacuation warning: In effect as of September 27 for the Stehekin community from Harlequin Campground up-valley to just west of High Bridge Campground.
• Road and facility closures: Upper Stehekin Valley Road and High Bridge Campground remain closed in North Cascades National Park as of September 27.
• Trail closures: The Pacific Crest Trail along the Agnes Creek Trail section from the national park boundary to Bridge Creek Camp remains closed as of September 27.
• Forest restrictions: General public use restrictions across the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest were lifted on September 27, though fire-specific area closures remain in effect.

Conditions and Outlook

Westerly breezes and brief daytime drying will give way to cooler conditions and widespread rain, followed by overcast skies and calmer winds toward midweek. Fire behavior is expected to stay moderate with slow backing, creeping, and occasional tree torching along slopes and drainages. Arriving precipitation is projected to further dampen fire spread while crews maintain initial attack readiness.

Cause and Context

The fire was ignited by lightning on August 14, 2026. It is managed jointly with the Little Giant Fire under Northwest Interagency Incident Management Team 13.
