Crews monitor smoldering perimeter near Kachess Lake and Box Canyon Creek
The Three Queens Fire continues to burn in steep, rugged timber within the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest west of Snoqualmie Pass, across a perimeter encompassing Kachess Lake, Cle Elum Lake, Cooper Lake, and Box Canyon Creek. Fire activity over the last 72 hours remained minimal, limited to creeping and smoldering in heavy fuels. The fire does not currently threaten nearby communities or structures.
Evacuations and Closures
- No evacuation orders, warnings, or emergency closures are in effect as of October 20.
Impact
Drifting smoke from smoldering timber resulted in moderate air quality in nearby Easton on October 20. No structural damage or injuries have been reported.
Conditions and Outlook
Winds will shift to the west-northwest and turn gusty on Thursday before slackening heading into Friday. Much cooler weather and improved humidity will settle over the region into the weekend, with a slight chance of showers developing on Saturday. Minimal fire behavior is expected to persist as personnel continue perimeter monitoring.
Cause and Context
Officials determined the fire was ignited by a natural lightning strike in steep, rugged backcountry terrain.
