The fire poses minimal threat to nearby communities today as crews reinforce control lines, extinguish interior hotspots, and backhaul excess equipment.

Evacuations and Closures

• Level 1 ('Be Ready') evacuation warnings remain in effect as of September 4 for areas east of Tiger Creek Road (NF-65), south of the Oregon-Washington border, west of the fire perimeter, and north of Mill Creek, including the Intake Trail.
• Evacuation warnings for Umatilla County zones UMC-039 and UMC-041 along the Mill Creek corridor were reduced to Level 1 ('Be Ready') on September 3.
• The Umatilla National Forest emergency area closure remains in effect as of September 3, closing public access to the Mill Creek Watershed as well as Forest Service Roads 64 and 65.

Impact

Structure protection measures remain in place around critical municipal water intake systems in the Mill Creek drainage, with no structural damage reported. Isolated smoke lingers within the fire perimeter, though cool and moist air has minimized smoke impacts on nearby communities.

Conditions and Outlook

Cool, damp, and overcast conditions will persist over the next several days with chances of patchy rain and drizzle, accompanied by shifting southwesterly breezes that turn gusty before easing early next week. Elevated humidity and periodic precipitation will keep fire behavior subdued with minimal creeping and smoldering. Crews will focus on securing and mopping up containment lines, removing hazard trees, and performing suppression repair and watershed stabilization.

The Paradise Fire was ignited by lightning on July 16, 2026, burning in steep and rugged terrain across the Blue Mountains. Northwest Complex Incident Management Team 8 assumed command of suppression and repair operations on September 3.
